Having a marked vehicle driving around will temporarily deter criminals from doing anything illegal. That's great at preventing crime if you want to keep driving around the block all day. Unfortunately the CO's can't even afford gas so that options out.
Deterring crime is just delaying crime, criminals will continue what they're doing once the CO is down the road. I fully support the unmarked cars because at least this way they can catch poachers in the act and build a stronger case against them for court.

Just seems like more danger to the CO who may not be in uniform and not driving a marked car to approach someone with a weapon and start demanding things.

Had two "undercover" Co check me and my buddy a few years back. It was opening day duck on mud lake. We had set up a good hour before sunrise. In the dark saw 2 guys paddeling a canoe towards us. In the dark we thought it was some lost hunters and after a couple of WTF are you doing in our decoys they turned on the lights and although they were in camo underneath you could see the bullet proof jacket and the shotgun across the gunnels.
