I once asked a very learned former Ontario Chief Justice how lawyers got it straight in their minds defending people charged with horrendous crimes that they knew were guilty as sin. He wisely told me that it wasn't the lawyers job to establish guilt or innocence,but,to test the Crowns evidence for accuracy and integrity and to ensure the accused defense was well represented before the Bar. Just because someone has been charged doesn't necessarily mean that they're guilty.
