I like the letter from OFAH to MNR, quite forceful.
It's dated June 2014. Where's the response? One of the biggest issues here is the lack of transparency from MNR as highlighted in the OFAH letter.
MNR should publish all available stats (collected with our money) and explain the reasoning behind the proposed changes.
I disagree with some posters implying that only the harvest can be managed (and then only in specific groups, which is absurd in its own right!), the habitat and predation should be managed as well. Both have been done successfully in other countries.

Which is my point. If your buddy has the adult tag and you cant hunt calves that week you by law need to be within effective communication of him or you can ge charged. With the hole this Province is in financially we will be lucky to hang on to the few CO's we have now. The MNR is the easiest budget to raid and steal from. I don't think all of the ramifications of this new policy have sunk in yet.

You can Increase the pressure on predators like wolves and bears but the reality is not many people hunt wolves and bears. It will have some impact but is nowhere near what some think it is. We also don't really know how extensive the native harvest is or at least they aren't making that public. so yes, the humans are the single most " controllable" variable in managing moose.

Laugh all you want but many hunters will be in a position where a cranky CO could lay a charge.

if they were hunting legaly there would be no issues... ranks up there with poaching... if they shot a bull moose 10 kms from the tag owner while calf hunting they have shot a moose without a tag... its illegal now...

You're not getting my point. Before, you could be moose hunting 10kms away from the tag holder and if you had a calf license it was perfectly legal. Now you can't hunt calves so will have to be in constant contact with the tag holder. I can see alot of bear licenses getting sold this fall to get around this. Maybe thats what they are hoping for $$$$$

providing you only shot a calf... if you were to take a bull or cow you would be illegal... because what if after you shot your moose, another group member shoots a moose as well, as he had no clue you shot your moose...
