Loose Dogs chasing wildlife problems

I am VERY pro-police, this is not a knock on them, what are they going to do really, when brought into these situations.... enough complaints, and what? i can get some kind of restraining order? still won't keep the dogs away... maybe if i complain for a decade they might lose the ability to own pets??? that's not my aim either. and i don't want to start shooting dogs. but i've had a bear run in a blur within 15 feet of me on my 50 acre property being run by hounds in deer season... it's not safe. it's not the dogs fault
No one can control a dog running animals... unless some kind of wireless leash is invented, then these problems can't be solved in a way that will result in a "win/win."
Buy a chicken.... it's the only legal way to defend your property apparently.

Leave the rest of us out of your problems. You can't get along with your neighbors or adjacent hunt camps, so rather than come to terms with that, you opted to start a campaign to ban hunting dogs. Please leave the rest of us sporting dog people out of your drama.

I talked to the Kemptville office last year they did not shoot any dogs. I was told they had very few complaints none were investigated further than initial contact and the parties were referred to the local dog catcher.
So exactly where are these dogs that are chasing and killing deer.

You guys go to far when you start talking about shooting dogs and banning hunting dogs.

BINGO! A rented live trap so you get the right culprit and then yes they disappear. Cats are harder on small game than most natural predators. I like the owner that pays zero attention to the cat and it's activities only to plaster the neighborhood with posters when it disappears.

Couldn't agree more. There are isolated instances but things get carried away. As far as that quote about who is legally permitted t shoot a dog....think again as that is not the case. Call your local police, call your MNR or your by law enforcement officer. I know of several instances where dogs were shot and the perpetrators were convicted in court with ordered costs to the owner.

You guys need to find another crusade besides saving all the wildlife that these dogs are catching and killing. Maybe you shouldn't have built your house and destroyed the habit.

Caltek has already warned several folks here who advocate this.

You need to read more. I HAVE never said I was against hunting with hounds!!

don't get me wrong I have owned Cat's most of my life as well as Dogs. If my Dog leaves the property and is chasing animals well then...

I would suggest 'some' on this thread do some research. Not hard to find the instances where even property owners were held accountable not to mention some others. I think most here are more reasonable in their approach and also follow existing laws but hell I could be wrong....it'll be your dollars and your name in the paper if you're stupid.

Anyone that would purposefully shoot a loose dog to prove their point is in my opinion an (auto deleted) and should be convicted and punished to the highest extent of the law. While you are out hunting with your firearm you are ONLY legally permitted to shoot at legal in season game for which you have a licence / tag for, I don't remember ever season an open dog season.....

I said when I worked in the woods in NS back in the 1980's I was told to by the MNR. As well here in farm country when a dog is harassing live stock they are shot at times.

Maybe instead of shooting a dog running at large the owner is fined a minimum of 100,000 and loses everything he owns I am sure we can all agree that would be fair then. I know there are a few on here who think the same as someone feeding his family when their down on their luck.

I can see that you personally couldn't give a crap about someone Else's lively hood. Be damn the farmers eh.

As far as MNR saying they have had very few complaints remember there is pretty much no MNR left.

I think in Eastern Ontario we have about 2.

Don't push your luck GW, I have read the thread and for what it's worth I do care about people's livelihood and never did I intimate anything to that effect....farmers are very important to me in my area especially....those are your words not mine.
