Hunters say firearms ban didn't affect hunting season

It is the purpose and intent the person with a firearm, a knife, a piece of pipe, hockey stick, baseball bat etc. that should make people afraid of their use, CRIMINAL use... fearing evil is smart... Nothing scary about a factory made piece of metal or wood made for legal purposes.... unless it is the law abiding part that disturbs you on some level?

I have to wonder what the Liberals are going to do, to insight the gun control enthusiasts to vote for them when they have taken all the guns belonging to law abiding citizenry away, and firearm infractions still continue to escalate. Sat back and pondered weighing in on this for some time.

Did it affect me, yes. I could not carry the firearm that I wanted.

I spent the better part of a year and a half designing "my perfect" all around hunting rifle. I wanted something good for the close quarters bush that had the ability to reach out and touch something as well. Given my thoughts for easy to keep clean, short action, semi that could be handled easily in the woods as well as hold sub MOA groups I settled on an AR10 with wood furniture to "unscary" the unit and added a 22" barrel and 1-10 X 40 scope then engaged a Canadian group to do the build.

I was finally going to have the perfect big game all rounder, from deer to moose, 0 to 500 yards, no worries! Well, the build was complete, test firing showed crazy groups and the work these boys put in to the machining for my oddball caliber... it now sits in Limbo. A good chunk of change has been burnt on this on my end as well as the builders. I won't see a dime for the buyback as I don't own the unit, im going to have to pay the builders the balance just to see it destroyed.

Your frustration is clearly understandable and without questioning the wisdom of a build on an AR10 platform given the publicly-stated policies of the current government did or will the ban stop you from hunting or will you continue to hunt with a different rifle?

The wisdom? It was an unrestricted firearm that was not mentioned previously by the current band of goofballs. The AR15 was said to be the target along with firearms used in Canadian mass crimes. As stated this build was started long before the speak of this garbage came out. Myself and the builders kept an eye on the ongoings and up until the day of this particular scams implementation there was no hint that this firearm would be on the block. No black stock, no option for full auto, no option for extended magazine, 3+1 capacity, fixed stocks, the action is the only thing thats truly AR anymore.

Yes, still going to hunt, but if I'm going to hunt the way I designed this rifle to hunt with other rifles it might be less ethical. Because you are ok with the idea of limiting Canadians to the use of sharpened sticks it does not mean that I am.

OP why can't you figure it out? Did the ban effect hunters, yes it did. Why continue to argue the facts?

No hints? There were hints aplenty. The Liberals committed in 2019, before the last election, to "ban all military-style assault rifles including the AR-15..."

The AR-10 was the predecessor of the AR-15 and built on an almost identical platform. It's not hard to conclude it just might be caught up in a ban.

Perhaps a Browning BAR or Benelli R1 would meet your specific requirements.

What you have not figured out is what percentage of hunters did it affect because the Liberals did figure that out and they also figured out they will not win or loose any more votes because they already ran on the promise and voters were already in one camp or another.

There are 16,000 or so members on this HUNTING forum and they are not exactly banging the door down on this issue. IMHO

Gilroy did the ban effect hunters, yes it did. Why is it so hard to admit the truth?

What is military style per se? The 303 British was a military gun, the SKS, the 30-30 Winchester, the musket! The AR 10 was never a military gun.

The BAR, one balsam needle and its "click". Strip and clean that BAR in 5 mins without carrying a toolbox and get back to me.
