Not really some have suggested that for someone who poaches to feed their family living in the North and down on their luck.
What's the difference.
As I said when I worked in the woods in NS we were told by the MNR to shoot to kill. I did not say Ontario.
Yup and yotes probably kill more than poachers to. So is that OK??
Poachers don't get shot at or charged 100,000$ either and there are not that many dogs outhere that will kill a deer!
Look if someone wants to shot at a dog it's his own responsibility, I don't care as long as it isn't mine, but vehicules kill a lot more wildlife than a dog so what are those dog killer doing about it?! If I see a dog running after a deer, I don't give a damn after all I might shot that deer when time comes so it will end up dead....
What is with this constant referral to Nova Scotia ? forget that province , you are living in Ontario we are discussing issues dealing with Ontario , there is no reason to be constantly bringing up Nova Scotia, what happened in Nova Scotia and you , has no bearing here in this province "Ontario".Quote:

I love dogs.
Had a Sheltie for 13 years that was a part of the family as much as my children were.
Allowed onto the furniture to sit with us.
Walked 6+ miles daily.
At home he was a yard dog. Did not stray to other property
Yes, he free ranged at our cottage- about 100 yards east and/or west. I asked the neighbours yearly and they never saw him on their property for his whole life.
Lots tears when he died. Unlike most dogs he got to die a natural death. No vet needle. Just a nice fade to death.
Why I am I telling this?
I like dogs… some folks on this forum see me as a dog killer.
I do not support killing dogs running on private property.
But, flytyermiller is correct… there is no solution.
Law enforcement in rural areas is not going to waste their time investigating/prosecuting running dogs.
Land owners get used to it.
Bad owners who let their dogs run on your property have the law in their favour.
You can’t kill their “pet” or else you will be charged.
Bottom line.
Bad dog owners have more rights than land owners.
Bottom line if you have an issue with a Farmer shooting a dog on his property don't hunt on farm land.
