Reads more like something you would read about an assassination not an attempt to arrest.

Only 3 scenarios come to mind:

1) Some goose stepping hot shot in Toronto thought he would put one over on the OPP and rush in and find something, anything.

2) The customer was either a wanted criminal/terrorist or undercover police trying for an entrapment.

3) He had been a secret spy and the Russians or Chinese had him assassinated..... ok last one is a stretch but in the lack of evidence and the police actions... as ridiculous as it is, prove it wrong.

Hmm.... it does read like it doesn't it, maybe not the most ridiculous idea if we both thought the same thing within a few minutes of reading it. Shoot someone that works on cops guns and doesn't make much news around here.

I think everyone should let the SIU investigation play out.

I agree but according to the CBC article the SIU is saying it will take four months. In the meantime there will be continuing silence from them and continuing over-amped speculation about "goose steppers, assassinations, executions, etc." and other paranoia-fueled conjecture. It doesn't build much confidence in the process.

There should be no reason for an investigation lasting more than the end of the month. The 'crime' was committed in broad daylight, in full view of witnesses and the police were probably wearing cameras so they have live footage.

Why does the public have to deal with a publically-funded organization that drags it's feet when it comes to resolving these 'cut and dry' situations.

Well in 4 months the media will have mostly forgot or will ignore it for one. They can let off cases of incompetence without a furor and questioning seems to be the goal in most cases.

The witness (alleged to use the lawyers term) just disappearing, can't blame the person, they should have had body cams it seems to be Toronto polices direction to have them. They should have an answer long before that, the trust in the system is long gone and getting worse

This case though just stinks, it really sounds like something out of a bad detective movie or gang/mafia corrupt cops dramas. The case for it being corrupt cops or something should come up just reading the CBC article and can be argued but that is just speculation on possibilities, based on the hope truth comes out.

Growing up around the head of the local OPP detachment's kids and being "volunteered" to help on occasion I heard about police that were "unfit" and he would be arranging their transfer.. coincidentally he was a good gunsmith but just did his own work, some of the inlay was incredible! I learned the term goose steppers from him actually. Not notifying the local OPP in time for them to be there, after probably close to a 2 hour drive and all the other inconsistencies that are mentioned in the CBC article I really wonder why, was it another Liberal ideologue like Alan Rock ("only police and army should have guns" and "the registry will cost $2M"... then $85M. etc.) about the warrant (was it legit (maybe worked on a firearm used in a crime), a fishing trip (trying to find anything to justify their existence) or maybe just trying to shut down a gunsmith by ruining his reputation etc....) , just what the officers were told that they went in like that (armed and dangerous? violent? shoot on sight? ... ) and many other huge inconsistencies that ring back to the stories of corruption etc. It really makes me think that we are unlikely to get any truthful answers even from the SIU. "followed a tip" or some other non answer and silence is what I expect from Toronto police and real justice dies a bit more, after all victims don't matter to many it seems.

We need to remember that the SIU aren't Police personnel. They're lawyers with seasoned long service senior,retired investigators with proven track records from various Police services across the province.

Therein lies the issue. There's no confidence in the system.

More to the point..lawyers getting paid by billable hrs...Never be in a rush to do what can be done in weeks if they can drag it out for months. :)
