Well here we go. I didn't think I needed anything this year but made the mistake of handling the new Browning A5 this week. I love the fit and feel of that gun. Feels like the old Auto 5 did. Not that I need one but I can see me caving and grabbing one anyway.....yeah it's a disease.
I hear there is a browning a3 coming out this year in the price range of the axis and 770 w. Supposed to be around 450.
I made the mistake of buying an X-Bolt. Then I bought another and then another. So now 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' (SWMBO pronounced: swim-bow) has drawn a line in the sand. So sadly I am not planning a new gun for this year (just bought the last X-Bolt 3 weeks ago). I have a Ruger Red Label O/U so I can't even squeak that one in.
Anyone have any comments on the X-bolt? I have never used a browning gun so just wondering how the X-bolt compares to the savage axis.
I don't own one, but the ones I've handled - the fit and finish have been great. In a different league compared to the axis in that regard. Doubt you could gain anything in the accuracy department though.
I had posted about it earlier, but...
Here's my new (to me) Browning BSS that I picked up from CGN. It's a first year manufacture with a Silver trigger, originally chambered for 2 3/4" with mod/full barrels, but has been professionally rechambered to 3", forcing cones have been lengthened, and the chokes have been opened up to IC/IC for shooting steel shot. May make a decent little skeet gun as well! Gun is in excellent shape, and fits me like a glove. May be a little on the heavy side for carrying all day for Upland, but I'm sure I'll do it!

Can't wait to shoot some geese with it in the late season, and use it next Fall!
