DU not supporting Gun owners

I'm as dedicated a waterfowler as they come, and for me, the argument comes down to one thing: I care about ducks more than I care about guns.

To bash a conservation organization (and to say it's not conservation is just asinine) is as counter-intuitive as mindsets come. Say what you will, but there's no organization out there that does more for wetlands and waterfowl habitat than DUC.

Have to admit reading all the other opinions was somewhat entertaining but as usual strayed from the main topic or just turned into tit for tat arguments. So if you want to save wetlands invest in a DU membership , if you want to keep your guns … invest in a membership in one of the organizations that will fight for that.

Semi-auto and pump shotguns can hold 5 or more rounds when the plug is removed. Anyone can remove a plug because the plugs aren't permanent. That puts them squarely in the sights of the anti gunners when unspecified blanket legislation is enacted by the usual "know nothings" as we saw in Australia and New Zealand.

You're missing the point. 80% of the DUC membership is comprised of gunners. What's counter-intuitive is the fact that DUC has chosen to abandon their members. It's this simple,with no gunners there'll be no members,no DUC or at the very most,a vastly reduced revenue stream.

Trimmer, got your answer before I could, but simply being that they are Semi or Pump Action shot guns. Both types of Firearm were banned Down under, and are the types of Firearms that the Liberals want to ban here.

Gun Manufacturers even designed a lever action shotgun just because of the ban. Then the Au and NZ started to ban them as well.

The rules have changed now, there are protections legally in place for wetlands.

Maybe the DUC will go the way of unions, piss off enough people to lose all support.

You're all welcome to your opinion of course, but for me, I'll continue to support DUC in everything they do. I support them because I believe in what they do -- not because I expect some kind of kickback, appreciation and or representation. I'm a believer in 'jack of all trades, master of none'.

Do I like ARs? Yup. Do I like guns? Yup. That's why I also support other organizations that specialize in these specific issues.

That is fine, you can put your money where you want and others can put their money where they want. There is no use backing DUC because they are there for waterfowl when many hunters in this country do not care about "wasting" their money on a group that to them does not support them.

The number of hunters that are pissed about DUC seems to be quite high, people that casually bought tickets or went out to banquets are going to be leaving, they are shooting themselves in the foot and dividing hunters.

Sure, conservation vs hunting, fine, you can see it as that, many do not.

Many see them as being bought off by the Liberal government, another group that is giving in to money. Here is the link to the unions, the teachers, the automotive sector, etc, etc, etc, they are trying to sell out the future of our province for the money now.

This may not be the opinion of all those out there but you have to look at both sides of the coin.

If you were to believe in Sprite's bravado Trimmer, if they lost all their guns and the ability to hunt waterfowl the DU membership will still continue with their conservation efforts. No more calendars, Gun raffles or hunting related activities..but they would still carry on for the love of the ducks. :)
