After completely blowing it on 2 longbeards that I put to bed and called in one perfect morning a couple weeks ago......I got out again this past weekend, but these early mornings have been killing me. So I told my son that we would go mid-morning and get him his first bird. Rolling out around 10:30, first spot didn't produce, and the wind was picking up. Second spot at lunch time was also pretty quiet, until it wasn't. Thought I heard a gobble, then 2, took them a while to work over and see the deeks. Out cruises a group of 3, all had decent beards, all fanning and bumping into each other. We were just sitting in the scrub of a fencerow, I told him to shoot whenever he had a clear shot at just 1, and I got ready. Bang, pause, bang, and only 1 top is standing. Did you get it I ask, and he isn't sure. I knew I dropped mine, and the 3rd tom is still hanging around. Its a hay field they are in, and the hay is up enough that we can only see the top half of the decoys and the 3rd tom. So, wait a bit, 3rd tom is still there, no other movement, we finally get up and walk over. 2 toms down within 3 yards of each other, and the 3rd tom finally flies away. First day out with my son this year, and his first bird ever, and we managed a double. Smiles all around, tried to get a self timed pic in the field that didnt turn out great, but it was the "moment".

Luckily mine was a bit bigger, 10.25" beard and 3/4" spurs. Been a good year!
