You'll have to keep a good sense of humour, as I'm sure if you're carrying something like that in the bush, in your camo hunting gear and run into other hunters, you'll probably get some comments like "Seen any taliban?"

If you're carrying a military inspired rifle, expect military inspired quips.

I don't know about getting questions just about military inspired rifles. I often get asked "what are you shooting?" and ask the question of others as well. Funny because with my 10-22 with extended mag and all the other goodies the owner of our moose camp drove by me once as we were searching the edges of a trail for a grouse laughed and made a comment about me not wanting to run dry while hunting.

Although I shouldnt have to explain myself the magazine is so I don't fumble with those little mags when getting off the ATV and trying to load with gloves on while the grouse is walking away.

I was making fun of 870s with a pistol grip on the pump as well as the stock.

When a lot of us old fudds started shooting you had a choice of buying a new Remington, Winchester, Browning etc and paying about $100 for it or buying a milsurp SMLE for $9.95 at Hercules on Yonge St. The goal of most of us was to own a "real" hunting rifle so the milsurps took second place.
A "real" rifle had a one piece stock (unless it was a lever action carbine) and looked smooth and streamlined, with walnut and blue steel. It also had a lot of hand fitting and finishing in the price. Milsurps were meant to be cheap and quick to manufacture in time of war. They had a lot of stampings and eventually plastic. Your object was to wound the enemy so they would have to devote supplies and manpower to rescue him. If you killed him then he could be left where he fell.
The object of a hunting rifle was to drop your quarry with one well placed shot.
While the milsurps are fun to shoot many of us have been raised to feel that they just ain't hunting guns.
We have also been raised with many other perceptions about other things such as newfies, germans, Scots, italians, poles, orientals, Christmas, fords, and blonds. These perceptions are now politically incorrect and in many cases illegal...

Man, if it's illegal to hate Ford, put the cuffs on now, because I'm a repeat offender ;)

There are lots of issues being brought up around the original post. As far as I can tell, if it's non-restricted, then who cares? Though for me personally, hunting with a gun designed for hunting just seems to make more sense... unless you're visualising zombies while you're popping the heads off of gophers at 25 yards or something.

That being said, I'd sure like to find a SCAR under the tree one year, just for sh17s and giggles.

At the range I see a wide assortment of rifles. Most are for target (bench) shooting or hunting. I also see some interesting antiques and sprinkling of vintage military, Chinese or Eastern Bloc rifles/carbines. Lastly, I see the occasional modern military style firearm that looks like it was taken straight from the G.I. Joe movie that is currently in theatres. I must admit that the performance and accuracy of these “black” rifles is very impressive; something that is undoubtedly assisted by the military style fatigues and black boots which are inevitably worn by the shooter. It matters not that this tactical mall ninja has no military or law enforcement affiliation whatsoever. After all, he is backed by the finest Special Ops training that X-Box has to offer. ;););)

The OP's thread title says it. He wants to use it cause it is an "evil, baby-eating black rifle." Nothing about the performance or merits of the firearm. It looks cool to him.
