Perhaps if there are some current or retired LEO's in the forum they might weigh in on how they are instructed to deal with situation where a firearm is in doubt. I have a feeling if there is a fully automatic rifle in the mix, It's a situation which requires them to put in a call to SWAT. The Montreal massacre is a case in point, I've been given to understand, that uncertain of what they were facing, law enforcer apparently delay intervening, until late in the afternoon, the last shot having been fired around 10 a.m.. However, what it seems to have fostered was the development of SWAT idea here in Canada.
