Scotch whiskey recommendations?

I enjoy a glass of nice whiskey on ice once in awhile. Most guys I know just shoot it back, but I’m not much of a fan of this. Sipping and chatting is more my style. I’ve tried many different varieties over the years. My taste buds have settled on Forty creek confederation oak. It’s smooth with no burning after taste. My brother in law is big on scotch. I’ve had it on a few occasions but I think I could breath fire after a glass. Can someone recommend a decent scotch that is smooth and easy drinking?

I'm a highland scotch guy......the only way to drink scotch is neat or with a couple drops of water.

Ya, I saw this.......took a lot of people by surprise. Definitely worth trying out, and is there really such a thing as bad rye? If so that is why god invented Gingerale!!

The beauty of scotch is that not many people like the stuff so you get to keep the whole bottle for yourself.

Cardhu, for me. I visit Scotland, most years, (golf, St Andrews) so if anyone would like a brand only sold in Scotland, ( there are many),let me know and I will bring some back for you. I do it for friends, they let me know their max per bottle, and if they don't know the brand, I find them something the 'locals' drink. No complaints yet. Once a friend put the limit at 200$ for a bottle ,( 20 years ago), wife was a little concerned, that I would not be compensated. Thankfully there was no problem getting paid, and he was happy with my choice. Ps. I know he refilled that bottle more than once........lol.

Too far up the mountain to have Turf or Peat delivered by Jaunting cart. So they fire with gas. No smokey peat flavor.

Johnny Walker Black Label for me,especially,when it shows up at Christmas under the tree. :thumbup:

I haven't had a drink in almost 25 years now, but there was a time that Scotch was my favourite beverage.
It's an acquired taste. To me best covering two or three ice cubes, no mix.
Ballantines was what I drank most times. Not the cheapest on the market but far from high end.
If I felt rich I might spring for the Glenfiddich.
The biggest thing I found with most whisky is that before you open the bottle tip it over gently a time or two.
If not, the first drink from the bottle is quite bitter.
Don't get me wrong. I am no expert, nor was I an alcoholic. Just enjoyed a good drink.

T 21, have you tried J.W. Green Label? Is is worth the extra cost. I am not much of a scotch drinker, so whatever I bring back from Scotland ,usually lasts until the next trip. Unless we entertain company ,who will indulge. In Scotland , the old boys, drink it 'neat' with a half pint on the side to alleviate the 'burn'. Water? Cubes? Sacrilege...." what the bloody hell".
