The CBC (of all places) has actually done some pretty good investigative journalism. This is just the tip of the iceberg in a story called the 'The Big Spend"...
How our money was distributed...Quote:
CBC News analyzed the financial statements of 53 public companies that disclosed receiving more than $10 million under the program.
The analysis found nearly 30 of them issued quarterly payments to shareholders while collecting CEWS. Collectively these companies dished out nearly $2 billion to shareholders between April and September.
At least seven companies also bought back shares during the summer while receiving the wage subsidy.
The analysis also identified 13 companies whose year-to-date net income increased when compared to 2019, including Leon's (which got $32 million in CEWS) and Extendicare ($82.2 million).
In other words, tens of millions of dollars from the government's pandemic aid package has gone to corporations whose overall revenues are up, despite the economic downturn.
But CEWS, which will cost $100 billion by the time it wraps up next year, was meant to help businesses struggling keep employees on their payroll. And whether the program is actually doing that is far from clear.

This snippet ref to LTC facilities is an eye opener..
Quote:
This story is part of The Big Spend, a CBC News investigation examining the unprecedented $240 billion the federal government handed out during the first eight months of the pandemic.
Two of the largest long-term care providers in the Toronto area have received more than $157 million in federal and provincial COVID-19 relief while also paying out tens of millions of dollars in dividends to their shareholders.
Extendicare Inc. and Sienna Senior Living Inc. have paid a combined total of $74 million in dividends this year.
Meanwhile, more than 480 residents and staff have died of COVID-19 at the companies' care homes in Ontario.
As the pandemic continues, CBC News has taken a closer look at the billions of dollars in financial aid given out by governments to businesses and individuals across the country.
Extendicare Inc. and Sienna Senior Living Inc. both say the taxpayer money they have received has gone directly to boosting staff levels and protecting their residents from COVID-19.
However, despite the influx of public money, families of some residents at Extendicare and Sienna facilities tell CBC News the quality of care has deteriorated.
Quote:
Extendicare said that like other health-care providers, it has struggled to find enough staffing this year.
"Staffing long-term care homes during a worldwide pandemic, against the backdrop of an industry-wide shortage of health-care workers, is a major challenge."
The company said it spent $42.5 million on its COVID-19 response in an effort to protect its long-term care residents and boost staffing — $22.7 million of that came from the Ontario government.
It also received another $82.2 million from the federal government, which the company says was used for wage subsidies at its ParaMed division, which provides care for people still living at home.
None of the $104.9 million in public money Extendicare received was used to pay shareholders, the company said.
So far this year, the company has paid out $30.5 million in dividends to its investors.
Even some CBC are getting it.... Libs aren't good for Canada and some seem to look past the next pay cheque! Just wanted to highlight this part...
"That drives up the cost of saving each job. Smart estimates it is currently costing the government $14,500 per month for every job saved.
"The danger with this program is that we're spending a lot to save a relatively small number of jobs," he said."
NEW TOPIC on the International
Too much sh** to keep adding new topics, since it is a global issue and would affect how we are viewed world wide this seems a good place... with the 2 year anniversary of the kidnapping of the two Michaels in China (bet they don't get compensation from the Libs) long past we see the fall out.... the Chinese troops they invited to Canada didn't come...
Trudeau government invited Chinese forces to Canada for cold weather training
https://tnc.news/2020/12/09/trudeau-...ther-training/
An explosive new document reveals that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to conduct cold weather training on Canadian soil in 2019.
According to the 34-page access to information cache obtained by Rebel News, the PLA forces were invited to train at CFB Petawawa in Ontario, but it was eventually cancelled following China’s illegal arrest of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.
Tucker Carlson talking about Canada training Chinese troops after Freedom of Information requests disclose the Liberal push to help China.... even after having 2 citizens still in prison without trial.

Did not Gil , have proof of how many high ranking conservatives including past Premiers are CEO s and Board members of those LTC facilities? There is your answer as to why ,they are being ‘helped ‘. JB .? Do you have any answers to the statement that we are spending to much to save jobs ? Is 14,000 per month a job to much? Let those jobs go? Forever? The cost may be much more financially later, never mind socially, health concerns etc. if those jobs disappear forever because we did not pay up front.
Justin Trudeau you have to go. We are sick of your sock puppet show. You traveled the world on our dime. Now no world leaders wont give you the time. Justin Trudeau you have to go.
Fish,
This is NOT Liberal vs Conservative. This is not Right vs Left this is Right vs Wrong.
At the end of the day if people do not feel comfortable with that is going on they will NOT spend. His confidence is being eroded - his house of cards will soon crash. The underground economy is booming - I just booked another $12k in work and the guy wants to pay me cash. That is $1,600 in his pocket and income I do not have to declare (saving 40% plus) and I perfectly OK doing it because how our gov't is spending it and their lack of transparently.
It seems only China will give him the time ... there was an interesting video by 60 Minutes Australia how China was essentially buying out the islands of he South Pacific through bribes, corruption and pressure. They have already sent troops here for training so heck they might even give him a deal where they will give him troops and police to help save costs control things like public protests (tanks optional), freedom of speech (people that disappear can't speak out) and the media... well CBC has even shown a back bone now and again, in a LIbEral Canada is that allowed etc.
He is creating a debt, job uncertainty and gov't deficit that could leave Canada crippled for many decades to come!
... and bing there is a justification for gov't owned businesses (to save money and have better control), remember the WEF 2030 "you will own nothing and be happy" .... I just keep feeling like I should add "or else"
Oh we Canadians are so lucky to be taking a lecture from India after our brave and just prime Minister The Honorable Justin Trudeau stood up for Indian farmers this week. Now we have an attack ad against our esteemed Prime Minister.
I don't think we need to take any lessons from a Country that has just in the last 14 days been found to be guess what THE MOST CORRUPT COUNTRY IN ASIA.LOL Movie and popcorn to follow....
