The off topic section is great hence the off topic of the fishing and hunting sections.
Plenty of useful information and debates and it definitely gets it's use. Fishing and hunting is not always open so without postings can become slow and little post at all during the off seasons .
It's the users choice to go into them if they don't want too, nobody is forced to read it.

No, it's where off topic stuff is discussed. Otherwise "off topic" material will be all over the forums.
The problem is the and animosity tossed around in the off-topic section makes its way through the rest of the forum.
This forum is far different from any other outdoor forums I've joined. It seems to be mostly people who like getting in online pissing matches who have an occaisional interest in the outdoors. Other forums have people that live/eat/sleep/breath hunting logging on now and then to share advice and experience.
OOD sure isn't a hunting/fishing forum - not anymore.
In the absence of an Off Topic forum the types of discussions that take place in it will migrate into other forums. I've seen this in other web forums.
Yes other than the Photo/Video shoot section.
I think any of us on here the last decade or so knows the Off Topic section is a sounding board for a certain political party. They will try to migrate into other threads which are political hot buttons (firearms), we just need the moderators to keep things in line on these other sections.
Isn't getting rid of it a small form of censorship. Let it roll. It is great entertainment to read how foolish people can make themselves sound. If you look at it closely I think you will find there is only a small percentage of obnoxious people on there. Any and all debate about the issues that affect our daily lives is important. You do not have to read it and I'm sure the moderator can censure if it gets extreme. Heated discussion and name calling is unfortunate, but to shut it down because of the action of a few people does not serve the community as a whole.
Somewhat different perspective, aside from if there's no outlet.
If Turkey tags go up. Most people will grouse about that. Grouse about the MNR and the lack of COs, which will lead to "politics" and lack of money. Even now some have groused about pleasure craft operator changes.
What will the mods do if I
"Its because X party gutted MNR funding"
give me a time out
?
With ice fishing soon to be a thing. If someone says anything about Ford closing rentals, and that X number of replies later turns into something
Can I report them?

Same with dog forum and a couple others.
Other forums.
I read a few or alot depending on the day, rarely comment. Not a lot to add by the time I read something.
Take Carrot the buck.....What might I say that hasn't already been said?
