Basement range

A different day for sure!

I know of police stations, fire halls and schools that have ranges in their basements and I heard that someone had a range like this in Chatham in their basement (over 30+ years ago). So are there any vegetable coolers, storages etc. still out there that were ranges?

If you were out in the country and had the land, would you build something along this idea? I would, big door, insulated and with storage space but I have neither the house or the land and it would be a proper cement block room that could be used for storage as well.

Likely not many of us will ever get to the point of building one.

Once back in Europe i tried out one 100 m underground shooting range like these are(basically a 100 m tunnel ).I did not enjoy it-way to loud and full of gases( way to tricky to evacuate shooting gases effectively)

The Canadian Forces shut down many if not all of their indoor ranges for health reasons.
This happened quite a while back.

Yes,as did many Police Services with indoor ranges. The costs to refit with adequate HVAC filtering systems that could meet health and safety guidelines was cost prohibitive for many small municipalities. Lead dust and gases are really bad for the body over a relatively short time period.

The gun club I belong to has an indoor range, I think it is lead free? Pretty sure the Ottawa Police still have an indoor range.
But this Video appear that the owner of the range has money and if you have money sky is the limit.

I could build you a sound proof range for pistols quite easily and vent it as long as you have the money.

T21 . When I attended Seneca collage for , 'law enforcement', in the 70's, we had a range on our campus. The MTP, used to use it for requalification of it's officers. You could book it for private sessions. I attended many there, with my sister.

We had them all over the place Union Station CN Police and CNP used them, University of Toronto, Lakeshore and Dixie,
51 Division, 52 Division, Police College, we used Base Borden, outdoor range. I graduated from Seneca with Law Enforcement also back in the 70,s. This year I cut out a field by the cabin for my son and his buddies to use as a outdoor range mostly clay pigeon and he rigged up a covered hut to shoot from.

There's still a rifle range in the lower level of the Peterborough Armories that hasn't been used in decades. It's likely a storage room,now. I have a friend who at one time owned a big chunk of property in northern Peterborough County who built an underground culvert range and attached it through his basement wall. It cost a small fortune,but,it really worked well. He long since sold the property,but,I'll bet the range is still there.
