Liberals' two-billion-trees promise to cost $2.78 billion more than planned
Why does this not surprise anyone...we all remember their Gun Control fiasco.. HaHa.
Quote:
The registry was introduced by the Liberal government of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in 1993 and implemented by successive Justice Ministers Allan Rock and Anne McLellan. The net annual operating cost of the program was originally estimated to be $2 million.
In December 2001, cost rose to an estimated $527 million for the whole gun control program which included the long gun registry.
In April 2002 the tab for implementing the whole gun control program rose to $629 million.
At the time of the 2002 audit, however, the revised estimates from the Department of Justice were that the cost of the whole gun control program would be more than $1 billion by 2004-05
Now it's planting trees...
.
Quote:
The parliamentary budget office says a pledge by the Trudeau Liberals to plant two billion trees could cost almost double what the government says.
The tree-planting spree, spread over a decade, is supposed to start in the spring and cost $3.16 billion over that time, based on federal estimates.
Getting to the 2030 target means planting about 200 million trees a year more than the usual 600 million or so.
The spending watchdog's analysis suggests getting there is also going to require more money, about $2.78 billion more, bringing the overall cost closer to $5.94 billion.
