Hi there
Looking for a new laptop... I only use it for email and watching Netflix/YouTube videos/no gaming....so a maybe a 12-14 inch screen...Nothing too expensive. My current laptop is lagging and its about 7 yrs old....
There are so many options out there and I dont know enough to make an informed decision.... The best cheapest one that will do the job is best for me :)

I wouldn't ever get a Lenovo, it is the only one I have ever heard of that had viruses built right in fresh out of the box, one guy talking about them in regards to data security suggested applying cement and using as an anchor.
There are some 2 in 1 models that you can use as a laptop or a tablet and have touch screens. I had a touch screen once and it was OK but I like my trackball mouse and screen without smudges.
My advice would be to find the largest screen size you can if you watch netflix and videos. Lot's of computer places sell refurbished laptops for good prices and will offer a year warranty usually.
Frank another option would be to a clean up on you laptop and see if that speeds things up enough. Things like cleaning up a clogged registry, defragmenting your hard drive and removing unwanted files can help. Limiting the amount of programs running on startup can make a big difference on memory usage. I use a free version of CCleaner for that and cleaning the registry. Speaking of memory, simply adding some used memory sticks to the motherboard can speed things up too.
There are plenty of PC optimizers out there too and many of then have a free version that could still help you revive that laptop.

My Dell Inspiron is 6 years old. When it started to lag and had trouble finding wi-fi signals,I updated the drivers which seemed to fix the issue. Dumping the cache after a month or two usually fixes any speed issues. Just to be on the safe side,I have my files backed up with thumb drives. I also picked up a smaller ChromeBook when they were on sale at Staples. It's nothng fancy,but,it has a touch screen and it's very fast.
If the laptop has an HDMI port it is easy to hookup to any TV that has HDMI. If more than one person wants to watch that makes it alot easier.
ah dont go with a laptop, they end up over heating most of the time and crap battery. whats wrong with the one you have now? lagging as in just regular things your doing? are you drives full? maybe reformat windows on it fresh install might be okay?
If you're stuck on Windows 10..as was mentioned earlier you can't go wrong with an Acer from Staples. Good sales.
I got feed up with the Windows environment a couple of years back. The constant scanning and updating slowed the machine to a crawl , it got out of hand and you don't have a way to stop it...it's out of your control.
So I switched to Chrome OS. First I bought the 15' Chromebook lap top, got real comfortable with it. It was far faster on boot up, runs quicker and a lot less intrusive.
Was so impressed, I bought the Chromebox and replaced my Win10 desktop. The whole computer is the size of an old hardrive (2" tall and 6" square). Solid state drive, super fast boot up and runs quite. No more intrusive updates, they run hidden in background you never notice.
It's been over two years and I couldn't be happier. Google is aligned with Android, so everything (phone,TV, ChromeBox, ChromeBook) can be synced.
