Hi -i have an opportunity to go hunting around French river .
The area is rocky -as Canada Shield can be, mixed forest ,some rivers and lakes ,lots of bare land-rocks ,some swamps or stale lakes in low land of the rocky areas.
I have no time and chance to go up baiting.
What would be a reasonable location to seek out bears this time of the year?
My plan is to call or burn scent sticks.
Appreciate any input
The best spots are with a lot of elevation changes, rocky ledges, ridges.
It creates shadows and keeps the sun off them meaning its cooler and they can sneak in easier with less dead fall on the ground.
My stand has a giant rock Boulder right behind the bait. Like a 20ft high, 50yards round rock. Every single bear I've shot I seen it on top of that rock until it slowly worked his way around to better view.
I hunt about 30min south of South River. No shortage of Bears, Bugs are terrible right now though. Good luck.

You can never go wrong in the spring around a beaver dam with lots of grass areas. Good Luck
Close to the Grundy provincial Park would be a good concentration Bear population ...
I would sagest to fry render the pork fat Hungarian way the smell will be travel far ,
it worked for me in the past .

We’ve always had luck in older growth forests, by that I mean bush with a tall canopy. If you can be close to a meadow or lowlands adjacent to tall canopy forest that would be ideal.
If you’re short for time don’t pass up on trying bait. Even small amount will pique a bears interest, especially if your site is concentrated in scent (vanilla or anise in a spray bottle, cover everything, also worth smearing peanut butter on the bark of trees in your shooting lanes).
If getting bait setup is problematic, or you can’t get a hold of enough, consider making a big lollipop. I’ve seen guys make hard candy lollipops in a 5 gallon pail with a chain going through. Hang it in a tree about 4-5’ off the ground. They will lick and try to chew it up. I think you can YouTube it.

I forgot to mention that if you staying overnight try to call very late ,
in the evening just before legal time ends , the sound travel far in the evening ,
and you can have a better chance next day .
