Reloading question

Ok got a question I was checking my home loads for this coming moose season and it the same load that I have shot for 5yrs it for a 300 win mag using V560 and 180 projectile , after fireing a round that didnt sound right and examing the case the primer pocket had soot on it the primer used was cci mag large rifle . The book hordany 9th edition gives several charges but I ALWAYS LOAD BELOW MAX .I also fired a secound round same result didnt feel right so the toy was put away and brought home , looking at the bolt face it has some things that dont look right, so I went to a gun smith and he felt the bolt need to be replaced . My question is they recommend wlrm but I only had cci would the primer cause my problem , also Vituri has lowered the max on there web site , I understand formuls change but dam . I have yet to pull a load to verfy the charge but I always drop 3 charges to assure a constant drop.

I would not speculate your situation according your very limited description ,
for obvious reason , ( legalities )
I could just say to go back and re - read the how to reload safely ....

My guess would be the cci mag large rifle primer may not be as hot as the wlrm primer, retarding the burning rate of your main powder charge as a result the slug has not began to move before the pressure peaks causing blow back through the primer pocket. You might want to follow the recipe with the wlrm primer to find out if the problem persists.

No offense taken and very good point on the primer

Well I just pulled 4 rounds and they all measure within 1/2 grain on the intended drop of powder , this charge is approx 3 grsin less than published max load must be the primer ,I dont remeber factory ammo doing this

I was going to suggest, try firing factory ammo to confirm if it's a 'bolt' issue like the Gunsmith surmised.

X2 MIke-i had once a "big name"(brand authorized, Ontario wide service )gunsmith telling me- that i do not know how to pull a trigger on a gun AND i better practice ........The gun we are talking about misfired on me(I "passed" a nice buck, as a result of this failure ).
The NOT so BIG name gunsmith told me ,it could be the bolt spring, he replaced it, and VOILA....the gun became reliable again!

So I’ll wade in a bit on this one. What problem does the bolt have?
Round didn’t sound right - was it low velocity?
Are your primers loose when you seat them or take decent pressure to seat?

Question, have you tried this load combination before? Some things to think about: some powders are temperature sensitive, could you have a humidity problem wherever you store your ammo?

Answer pervious 2 post primers seated fine no big push on the press downwards round sounded different from previous times and more felt recoil also the powder is stored inside in a cool area i relize the temperature was warm when i shot but to spike that high ?? , anyway the firearm has gone back to Stoeger with a full explanation and they can make the call on the bolt, also pulled every round i had loaded abd removed the cci primers ,will be using the wlrm but i will be contacting hordany about there load data and asking a few question .
