Stand on Crown Land

I hunt on crown land and went to check my stand last week and saw that someone dumped a load of carrots in front of the stand about 20 yards away. They cleared a shooting lane and set up their trail camera on the tree that the stand is on. I was planning on using it for the moose and deer rifle hunt. Hoping that they will be using if for the deer bow hunt and leave the stand there when they leave. Just don't want any issues. I've been hunting that area for the last 30 years and never had that happen. If i see someones stand I just find another spot. I was thinking about leaving my info to get in contact. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is the problem with crownland...... In my neck of the woods, crownland is few and far between so it upsets me seeing a tree stand there as it implies rights to the area.
Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out and it works out well for the both of you.

ahh thats a tough one, i for one would not leave it there after that. but thats just my opinion.

on another note if i went on someones tree stand and say a kindly written note i may or may not get in contact with you.

its a risk that i wouldnt take but to each their own.

Leaving contact info is certainly a very good idea in this case.

Bait and a camera on a "found" stand? I'm amazed somebody would do that to be honest. Maybe they figured it was abandoned.

I think contact info would be a good idea, one area I hunt has a gun stand that I will only go in that area after the gun season, now that I know it's there.

What type of stand have you left? I agree with leaving a calling card, who knows maybe a friendship will develop.

It's a tough one, Had you already baited or done anything this year that would show you were planning to use it. Personally I won't use someone else stand but it's possible that someone could take mine.

I try to avoid other hunters and try to hunt in areas where others aren’t. If I found someone else’s stand, I might hunt from it if I thought that I wouldn’t interrupt someone’s hunt, or just I would just leave the area.

Last fall, I explored an area of Crown land and found a ladder stand along an old skidded road. Based on the age of the tracks in the snow, I was confident that the group that owned the stand had hunted the week before and had gone home. I followed their tracks around to see what they had been up to and whether they left more stands out.

Had the other hunters still been in the area, I would have left the area to them. But since they were gone, I felt free to explore the area. I might have used the ladder stand if the deer sign was there, but there wasn’t a lot there at the time.

I plan to go back there and explore some more this fall, unfortunately the loggers are going back there this winter to cut the remaining timber that they left 10 years ago. Once that’s cut, there won’t be any large blocks of standing deer bush left in that area. Thats been the trend up here for the last 15 years. :(

Stands on crown land are regarded the same as duck blinds on lakes. No matter who built it,first come first served. I don't build permanent stands on crown or blinds on navigable water specifically for that reason. I don't need the aggravation,besides,I've had much more success going into the bush in "stealth mode" or rigging the boat as a portable duck blind. There's a lot less BS.

Thank you for the replies. I will keep you posted on what happens. I will check this weekend to see if anyone is hunting there and hopefully work out a plan for both parties.
