Deer Down.....newbee shot his first!

I did not hunt the opener and opted to walk the north side of the property and deal with the bridge crossing and a cell camera that was giving us trouble. One of the new guys was hunting the south bush in a ladder stand that has been very productive over the years.

I wrapped it up at 4:30 and decided to leave the farm and drive home. After showering and settling into a cold drink before dinner I get a text at 7 saying 'I have a deer coming in'...........I wait and a few minutes later I get a text with this photo.......

I turn to my wife and say I gotta run, I go upstairs and change jump in my truck and head back to the farm. The newbee shot his first deer - a nice spike buck! I showed him how to field dress it and let him get his hands dirty (you only learn so much watching YouTube - LOL). We dragged him to the truck, hung him in the barn and skinned him and had a cold beer.

Perfect placement, unless he admits that wasn't where he was aiming. Had this happen a few years ago, the guy made a perfect neck shot I was impressed until he told me he was aiming at the Lungs Haha.

Great for him to have a mentor, like yourself, to walk him thru the processing. Like you said, youtube can only do so much.
