Doe down in rain
Well went out this morning in the rain, would have stayed home but property owner needed help. got set up 20min before legal and decided i'd stay until 9am. pretty quiet only a couple of squirrels and song birds, guess nothing likes the rain. checked my watch it was 859 so waited the extra minute as I always wait until the time I pick. Minute passes take a look around and see legs coming my way. watch behind to make sure no fawn with her, I don't want to shoot doe with fawn this early in season. no wind this morning, which i hate as they sent swirls around. I see it is a doe, she stops at last big tree before shooting lane and smells me, she turns 90deg and goes about 5yds. She turns and enters lane at about 22yds. stops to smell, I'm putting weight on trigger and she turns and makes to quick steps towards me. She now front quartering to me, looking right at me on ground. I know she is going to bolt shortly so i have to let her go or take the shot. I aim low for the heart and picture where i have to shoot. let bolt fly and instantly see bolt stick in log behind deer. Doe takes off where I can't see for all the brush. i check bolt has blood, so stick bolt in ground about where I figure she was and go pack my stuff up and walk back to barn where my jeep is. Unload my quad, chat with land owner for bit, get my dog out of jeep and we head back to spot. I show my girl the bolt and she smells the blood and off she goes in the correct direction. 50yds later she on top of deer, this is her 2nd deer she has tracked for me. 1st one was last year this time. shot through the heart and liver. Good size doe
