What's your go to...
I was a gas auger guy for many years but switched to a cordless. I now have a Dewalt 5 amp with the clam plate and will never go back to a gas auger.
I still have my Rapala 43cc gas in the garage but am reluctant to sell it. Are folks still using a gas/propane auger or did you switch over to a cordless set up
Gas auger with a manual as backup.
Identical to you. 20V DeWalt, 2x 5 amp-hr batteries, 8 inch auger, Clam plate, manual backup handle. Never failed so far in fact never had a day yet where i needed to tap the second battery but always bring it just in case. One tip - get a heavy duty dry bag for the drill body and batteries and use it. Had one time 3 years ago with a lot of slush on the ice and the drill case let water in. Drill was destroyed. No longer use the case - just the dry bag for the body and batteries. Accessories are now stored in my on-ice tackle box.Quote:

Never used as gas Auger always did the manual with fresh blade's.
The Milwaukee and clam plate are awesome I have seen so many switch over and not one regrets it. I've had mine for going on the 3rd season and will be upgrading the auger to a 8 inch fin bore 3
From the 6 I have been using.
A tip for the northern guys you will need an extension when the ice gets thick.

I swithed from a 10" gas jiffy to a 10" 18v Ion G2 last year. I'll never go back to gas and the Ion is rated for 1500 inches of ice on one battery.
Another tip I use is an insulated bait bag for my extra battery. I put in two hand warmers to keep them warm.....works great
I only started up last year, fortunately enough my uncle gave me a damn near new striker master gas auger with the Honda lite motor. Figured I saved enough cash right there, so I geared up on the rest. Looking to be that gas auger for the next few years for me.
Don't bother with the gas augers anymore. Cordless Milwaukee with and adaptor to my old hand auger
