Pellet rifle trouble

A few years back, I bought a Benjamin .22 caliber 585fps pellet rifle. It came with a 3-9 variable scope.I can’t get it to sight in, it’s all over the place.

I’ve read about leaky seals being a possible cause and wonder if they are difficult to replace. Thx.

I clean my barrel like any other rifle, try it without the scope to start trouble shooting. Scope rings have caused me more issues than the scopes.

Did the scope come with the gun or did you put it on?

Springer air rifles destroy scopes, you have to make sure you put one on that is designed for air rifles. If that gun is a CO2 gun then things are different.

I picked up a Mossberg break action (I think that was the brand) a few years ago, about 1100 fps, and that puppy would not fine tune with the scope provided but was great with iron sites. Tried a few different pellets, issue seemed to be mainly with the scope with a touch of operator error mixed in at times. Got it for suburban pest control but MAN!! that sucker was as loud as a 22 rimfire so it is only a camp gun now.

This. try without the scope to narrow down your issue but I suspect it’s the scope

Ditto on what the others said about the scopes. If it's not made for air rifles, it will get trashed. I wanted to get a better one for my 1200 fps Crossman, looked at the UTG Bugbuster but the eye relief was far too short. Bought the Stoeger model at Cabelas, nice and clear, good eye relief. Zeroed it in and after that, every 3-4 shots it started dropping the point of impact by 2-3 inches. Checked rings, they held the original scope fine, no change in impact. Took it back, the guy just smiled and gave me a hint. You have to buy better. So, waiting to hear back from from AGS in Peterboro, see what they say about Hawke Vantange, has a lifetime guarantee.

Yes, it came with the scope. I plan to shoot it through a chronograph and check for consistency.

Not sure if this is the cause but do not use regular gun oil on your air rifle as it will detonate under the pressure, like preignition in a car engine, making a loud bang.

LOL on the gun oil, I actually use an oil for the pellet guns I have that was for lubing an electric shaver, very light and viscous. All other firearms I use an Outers product or Venom boresnake oil.
