Hey everyone, hopefully a few of you managed to get out and into some birds...was wondering what everyone thoughts are numbers in general... up ? down?
Spent the bulk of yesterday in WMU 76...and only seen 1 bird in a field where in the past I would see 30-40+ easy driving around...any thoughts on what happened?

The farm I hunt seems to have higher numbers than before. I have seen more turkeys in the fields around me as well. I went for work to Montreal last week and saw way more birds on the 401 corridor than I have seen before.Quote:

Here in Norfolk numbers seem to be down. The birds seem to be everywhere they normally are but numbers are down from what I've seen driving around plus the couple of days I've been hunting. TC
I’ve been seeing birds as normal but what I did notice was a lot are females compared to males. In the last 3 hunts I saw 4 males compared to 20 hens
numbers seem about the same as they have been for a number of years here. What i am noticiing is an amazing number of owls this year. Could have an impact come hatch time.
Strange as it sounds think the birds are still in their winter flocks. Hunting nrth of shelburne, farrm has 2 hens a 3 males of which only 1 was confirmed a tom, On the north side of shelburne just on the door step counted about 40-50 birds.
Over here at the eastern part of 65 I'm seeing a lot less birds than in the past driving to work. I'm not hunting until next weekend so I'll get to properly scout the area then.
Typically,just like Deer before a season,we saw dozens of birds. After the opener,it's like someone waved a magic wand and made them all disappear (WMU73).
Turkey numbers seem way down in the Smiths Falls/Perth area, and have been trending that way for a few years.

Like Tom Gobble said in his reply seeing a lot of single hens with no jakes or toms following them which is strange.
Saying that you wouldn't no it by what we saw on Saturday me and my buddy both got big toms by 6:05AM and then when we were at our trucks we saw at least a dozen birds in the field we just walked out of that had 3 toms and the rest were hens.
there seems to be no rhyme or reason this year
