Looking at getting mrs a shotgun for Christmas. She’s shot a 12 gauge decently but leaning more towards a 20 for her. She’s not the biggest woman, about 5’4, and I want her to enjoy shooting it and not hate the kick.
Thinking about getting her a Winchester SXP waterfowl hunter pump.
Would love to hear any input, or other suggestions. Would like to keep it under $1000 so that pretty much rules out any decent semis.

My wife used to shoot a 12ga Wingmaster and a 12 ga Stoeger semi. She could shoot them OK but didn't like the recoil. Sold the semi and got her a Browning Micro Midas over under in 20 ga. Fantastic gun and the recoil is a mere fraction of the semi. She loves it. Shorter length of pull and it fits her 5' 4" frame perfectly. Only thing is you're not getting one for 1K. Stay clear of a Stoeger 2000 semi. Nice Benneli action but the gun is too light for a 12ga and kicks like a filthy pig. One of the hardest kicking semis I've ever shot.

If i was going to get my wife a semi this would definitely be the one. This gun is specifically designed for women and smaller framed shooters. I'd get it in 20ga with 26" barrel. You can get it for about $1200 before taxes. Fully adjustable LOP. Beautiful semi. The TSA recoil pad that comes with the gun is fantastic. I shot my friend's wife's gun and couldn't believe how light the recoil was, even with high brass 3" waterfowl loads.

If it’s in the budget look for a used benelli montefeltro in 20ga. It’s a pleasure to carry in the woods and has very light recoil.
You won't go wrong with a SXP. They tend to have just a bit shorter length of pull and tend to fit smaller shooters well. TC

With your budget, I would very highly recommend you look into the used market to find your wife a semi-automatic over a pump gun. Look into a Mossberg SA-20, Weatherby SA-08, Winchester SX3, etc.Quote:

Benelli Supernova pump would be my first choice, very low kick back compared to SXP. I have the 12G currently.
Stoeger M3500 also a good gun, my friend has a semi auto, bought it for 1050 I believe recently, I took it on my last duck hunt, did not disappoint.
