School Lesson About Grouse

You have to love rural northern Ontario. My wife works at a small elementary school located in the country (< 50 kids). Early one morning this week, a ruffed grouse flew into a school window and broke its neck. A teacher saw this and quickly cleaned it, cooked it, and served it to any of the kids that wanted to sample it. The kids had an impromptu lesson about grouse, with its crop and contents shown so the kids could see what it had been eating. Won't get a learning experience like that in the city.

That's awesome, I can just imagine if that had been in the city. They would have called 911Vet Amb, conducted CPR and then had an avian funeral.

Amazing story, those little buggers like to fly into windows. Had one fly right into the living room window this year. Thankfully that was in morel season so he fried in butter with morels. Thankfully I got it better than my neighbour who had one come right through his window.

Now that's a story that should hit the news in positive light

I had a similar experience with a mature buck I had shot.I had to pick up my youngest from kindergarden before the bell so I could take care of the deer before dark.When the teacher found out why I was picking up junior she asked the class " who wanted to see my deer"They all came out, jumped on the carcess and soon they looked like a scene from "Carrie" kindergarden version.Not one parent called to sue the school for sending little jennifer home with blood on her dress.That's why I live in the north.

That's the way how it should be and the kids will learn. Not that hamburgers and steaks grow in the meat department at the grocery store.

when my boys were in high school one of the teachers on a friday found out they we were all going turkey hunting on the weekend. The teacher told them that if they got one the lucky hunter would go to the office on Monday morning and tell their story over the PA system after their normal announcements. They did get one but I thought that was pretty cool. We live down south, but it a small french school in the country so mostly farm kids.

That's for sure. My daughter lives with my ex in the city, and when she comes to me, she is afraid of every rustle. My attempts to change this is in vain. Now she is studying to be a nurse, and I hope she can prove herself in a similar situation. School is hard for her, and we hardly see each other, but I found help at " Spam Removed" so I hope she comes more often. I wouldn't say I like the city with all this fuss and disgusting air. I think you understand me.
