Not this guy. The price of the "high end" coolers is just NUTS! They don't work a darn bit different than any others.
i have a cousin who has a yeti, goes on alot of camping trips and portaging trips. he says the thing is great, will hold ice for 2 weeks without a issue.
what ive realized is the bigger the blocks of ice you can freeze and fit in the cooler the better. crushed ice and smaller pieces melt way quicker and will last a day. went camping for 4 days earlier this year and froze little blocks of ice in little Tupperware containers. had maybe 10 of them. by the end of the week i still had maybe 7 of them in total that were still frozen and a decent size.
dont leave the cooler in the sun.
Is there anyone still making dry ice. Any trip into the back country we always brought a cooler filled with it and had no issues for two - three weeks….
I personally think the high end coolers are a waste of money. I use those big plastic water bottles, must be about 3L. I keep 2 in the freezer all summer. the problem with cubes is the surface area, more surface area the more heat loss, so a solid block has a lot less surface area to loose its heat.
I’ve heard that if you drape a wet towel over your cooler, it will help keep it colder… something about the cooling effect caused by evaporation. I’ve never tried it to find out.
The more insulated the better. Buy what you can afford. Like others said bigger blocks of ice and how many times your open and close the lid will effect how long ice will last. The tighter you pack the cooler the better.
