Bumped a Buck
OK so here's my situation and I could use some advice on what to do.
I haven't been seeing any deer for the past week or so but still went out this afternoon as I saw some tracks that weren't there a couple days ago. I still hunt on the ground and was sitting under a tree and after an hour, decided to change spots.
I'm walking along the trail and slowed down to peer through the trees into an open field. I've been busted near this spot several years by deer in that field so I'm always looking closely.
As I paused, I turn my head to the left, deeper into the bush, and standing there staring at me is a pretty darn big buck 20 yards away. The bush between us was way too thick to get a shot off and I also wasn't sure I could shoulder my shotgun in time before he took off.
He didn't bolt, but rather trotted away, even though I'm sure he also winded me.
I backed away about 50 yards and sat there until end of legal light, but I didn't see him again.
So, do y'all think I should setup in that spot in the morning or did I ruin that spot for a while?

Set up away from that spot if he comes out again he ll look to see if your there before entering the area you where in
-
If there's evidence of Doe's around he'll come back. Doesn't sound like you have much in the way of alternatives anyway. Pick a different spot in the same area dependant on wind direction and maybe use some scent attractant. That's what I'd do.

I shot my first buck the morning after he busted me the night before, for what’s it worth

Thanks for the advice. He did come into where i have attractant so I'll setup where I think he might be coming into, but a ways away from where I was.
