No recommendations for you but I always wear one on the water. Mine is just an ordinary one. It does the job but can get hot and sweaty during those dog days of summer.
On a side, both my brothers have the inflatable ones, but I never see them wear them, :(
I always try to wear mine since I can swim like a boulder but I found i was taking it off while fishing it felt like a bear hug
Was gonna say this too !
I got thrown from a boat doing 40 with no life jacket on, the impact temporarily stunned me, I started swimming to the surface when I checked the air bubbles to confirm direction only to realize I was swimming down not up, I estimate I was 15ft under water. I would recommend wearing a life jacket.
I m not apposed to life vest at all I just find mine bulky and thinking of the inflatable style so I constantly where it even when we are anchored and just casting
There are the half mesh style vests-good compromise between cost and comfort.
Inflatable are nice if you’re going to wear them. I wear life jackets a lot depending on conditions but don’t wear them all the time and can make that choice as I see fit. I wear a full body survival suit lots of times in cold weather. Inflatable at times and in some boats and nothing other times but always have standard ones onboard
I keep 4 standard PFD's on board my boat but also have a couple of manual inflatables that I use most of the time because they are comfortable. I am thinking of upgrading to the auto-inflate seeing as I'm getting on in age. As it's been stated already inflatables are only legal if you are wearing it hence keep regular types onboard.
