Does anyone know where to find 12ga or .22 rifle blanks in SW Ont in or near Brantford? Or if I can order them online?
Depending on cost, I'd like to get some 12ga blanks rather then removing the shot out of a bunch of trap loads.

We used a starter pistal for our pups geting used to the noise then all we did was by empty hull's at shooters choice in kitchener and pressed 209 primers into them and fired them that way out of a single barrel break action shotgun , Worked very good .Kent makes training popper loads just for dog training .anyone who sells shotshells should be able get them in .

You can use Reminton Ramset charges, as blanks in a .22 bolt or single shot. You can but them at hardware or building supply retailers. Different colours indicate different charges, loudness. Shooters choice in Waterloo usually has shotgun blanks. They are probably twice the cost of target loads.
Look like these

If anyone is looking for a cheap solution, I went to a dollar store and got bought a cap gun for $1 and 60 caps for another buck. Not as much bang (though louder than expected), but for the cost it works really great, especially if you are introducing a pup to gunfire.
Been using the cap gun since she was about 4 mo. old. Great warm up for her when there were no other options.
Dollarama it was. The first store I went into had guns, my wife picked up the caps at another which sold cap guns too. This will give an idea of how loud it is; I often wear ear muffs when firing it.

It's been a while (50 yrs) but from what I remember shotshells with the pellets dumped are not nearly as loud as regular loads. Try a few before you dump a whole lot of shells.
Purple or black Ramset loads are noisier but don't know the price. If you know someone who reloads they might have something in a 30-30 or 308 blank that they have made up using fast burning powder that will give a good "bark" at a reasonable price.
If you will be doing a lot of shooting your best bet is still a starter pistol with 209 primers......
Thanks for all the advice. I took her out to a field today for her gunfire introduction. I used yellow ramset charges in a .22 to start out with. She didn't flinch, just looked around the first couple times to see what it was. Moved to shotgun and fired some 2 3/4 magnum steel loads I had kicking around but no use for. She didn't mind that either. Set her up for some formal marks from her dog blind, fired the shotgun off for those. No problems what so ever.
