Faking dead coyote???!!!????

To make it a short story : I was out hunting yotes yesterday. Shot one that was about to enter the ditch I was watching. It was shot twice with 00Buck. I strapped him to the bumper of my snowmobile, drove to an intersection between the fields and sat him on top of a fence post, planning on picking him up on my way back home after the hunt was over.
Well, on my way back it was not on that post anymore. I followed the blood trail and it was about 50 yards away tucked under a wood pile. Went to grab him and he tried to bite me. Had to shoot him again.

Now here is my question to you guys : Can yotes play dead to avoid being shot again and then attempt to escape when left alone?

I absolutely thought he was dead the first time, otherwise I would not have handled him by hand, placing him on my sled, strapping it down with bungees and all just inches from its teeth.......

thats is something i never heard of...possibly knocked out? pellet rickocae off the head?

I remember counting 2 holes through the mid-body section, and 1 hole in each of the front legs. That was while I was strapping it down the first time.

Maybe it was in shock...be careful out there!

never seen a coyote play Possum before. My guess is you knocked him out.

I'd say he was knocked out as well and came to while you were gone.

Crazy sh_t! Your lucky man! Ive heard of this happening with deer but this is the first coyote, Im with the rest of the guysa, he was knocked out

That's the damndest thing I've ever heard of, 00buck usually kills 'em DEAD! Strange things can happen,though.

Ive seen lots of coyotes shot and wounded and shot again.
They are pound per pound the toughest animal we have to hunt around here.
Skin him out and im betting he has a pellet or two in the brain bucket,,,,,keep us posted as this is intriguing.
