Hey guys was just wondering how the ice conditions were on lake muskoka.
I will call the inlaws tomorrow to find out. I am getting itchy, but am a bit worried about how much snow is on the ice (if there is any ice yet), as it can slow things down a bit.
i check on friday and there was 2 inches in gravenhurst bay and 2 feet of snow and big lake was still open
The condition: The ice is bad and the snow is good.......
I am on Gowan Island just opposite where the Muskoka River enters Lake Muskoka. Yesterday morning the ice in our bay was 4`thick and the slush on top was almost frozen. Further out, in the main body of the lake, the ice was 2 1/2`thick with 3" of shush on that, covered by about 8" of snow. It seems to be slowly thickening by about 1/2" per night. I think that the only way we will get safe ice in the short term is for the slush to eventually freeze.
I just checked the ice again this morning. A few sketchy spots but overall the slush is freezing nicely and it may be walkable tomorrow (with extreme caution). If so I can get my trail to Indian Head marked and start packing down the snow and remaining slush so the trail can thicken up.
Be careful out there bob, I checked the ice at the beach today and there was a inch of white ice, a layer of water and an inch of black ice which was covered in about 6" of snow.
