Roadkill Doe????
Hey guys,
I was lucky enough to see a doe get hit on the road. She seemed to be in good shape so I gutted her and got her hung up. As for any of the Internet CO's, yes I'm aware of the permit needed to keep her.
Problem is that I never had a chance to get her cut up before she froze solid. Can I thaw her to get her skinned and butchered and then freeze the meat again? Or is she coyote bait?
Any thoughts..............
Thanks,
Brian

I think you would be good to go... Don't think you need a permit for her... Deer freeze on the hanging pole lots... It's the massive bruising you wanted to cut out before it spreads ...

No fawn in her I hope. Gross. There diet this time of year around here is mostly cedar bows cause its hard to scratch in the fields with so much snow and ice. Don't know what she might taste like lol. Spike I shot this fall at camp froze and was butchered as it thawed then wrapped and put back in freezer. I and everyone else who ate it are still here.

Skin it and cut away the bruised meat.
Generally you need to have authorization to take the deer, but there is no permit, just someone (OPP or MNR generally) saying you are ok to take it, just make a note of the time and the badge number of the officer and name to be safe.

My buddy got one last week. OPP shot it for him and told him he didn't need a permit. He called MNR anyway and was told that the fine was over $100 for NOT reporting the kill. Its not the same as the old permits apparently, with more info requested.
My deer from the rifle hunt is quartered and frozen (in heavy plastic bags) in a spare freezer. In a month or so we will be running it thru a band saw and vacuum sealing it as chops, steak and stew. Been doing it this way for years and cooking most of the meat on the BBQ when it warms up a bit.

Not to worry, most of ours also freeze on the pole.

5yrs ago, reported a fresh deer road kill to the MNR. They took the related info. (what happened, any damage, where Police called?) and gave me a report # and mailed a document. Butcher needed the report #.

Skinning will be a chore, but it's good meat hopefully.

Reporting is done online now and it's a pain in the butt.

Deer meat will be fine, have had one freeze on me before can't tell the difference in taste .
