yes you can...its possession...just cant purchase..i would get a note from the owner saying you have permission to borrow,in case you are stopped....

Possession Only (POL)
The Possession Only Licence, which was introduced in 1998, was intended for people who already owned guns, and did not intend to acquire any firearms. This $10 licence allowed you to purchase ammunition and keep whatever non-restricted, restricted or prohibited firearms you already legally possessed and borrow other firearms of the same legal class. At present it is free to renew or get a new firearms licence, if you have ever had one in the past. POLs were only available prior to 2001, unless renewed before their expiry date.
now,what i dont know is are pol's even still legal anymore?
and you can also use a friends gun without a pol or pal,but the owner has to be in visible range at all times...
i got the answer,if your pol expires after january 1st 2004,you are eligable for renewal...
