Trip to Cuba

we are booking a trip to cuba , now my question is has anyone gone down there and did any surf fishing? Spear fishing? if so any guides you can recommend?

shore fishing can be fun...depends on where in cuba you are going....id try and talk to a local shore fisherman...ive always brought extra gear down to barter with...bridges are a great place to start

I have a bud who goes down a couple of times a year . Like Ijay says take fishing gear to barter with . He takes big spools of cheap line .

I went last year, take the same gear you would use in Florida. Most of the locals are very poor and friendly but be on your guard when off hotel property as you will be approached by people asking for spare change etc. Fish the beaches early before the swimmers get there. Some locals even snorkeled out the reefs and spear fished, if you are into that. THere were some charter boats that you can book, ask at your hotel. As said earlier take lots of extra gear to use as tips and barter with, that stuff is just not available easily over there so it is much more appreciated than the convertable peso. For bait I took a few cooked shrimp from my meals, and some plastics from home.

Good question, I researched this before I went and could get no information either way. I asked the security guard at the hotel and also the booking agent at the hotel in Cuba - and the concensus was there is no licence to get, it simply does not exist.

One word of advice with Cuba, dont leave anything lying around it will be gone very quickly.

I just got back from Varadero about 10 days ago, send me a message if this is where you're going. Have a few ideas for you. You won't find gear for sale down there, so bring 2 of everything you need. I didn't have great luck, but ended-up doing OK and getting a little intel on the last day that I couldn't capitalize on! Bottom line~I don't think Cuba is a terrific spot for shore fishing, at least not like Florida is. (and it IS)

the end of the Varadero penisula is a great spot to shore fish
Right in front of the Blau Marina Dining Room. Theres a lagoon that can hold fish depending on time of year.
the main channel between the point and the island is good all year but if I had to pick a week i'd take last
week of mar or first week of april.

Bonessk01 that is right where we stayed. I didn't end up fishing I smoked cigars and drained the bar there. Next trip
