I have just taken my fur harvesters course and am wondering about what I can trap. I live in the Cambridge area and haven't found any places to trap down here yet; I do have some private land in the Sudbury area that I will be trapping on. Are there any furbearers that I wouldn't be able to take on my license? I am wondering about lynx, fisher and marten? These animals are present in good numbers in my area. What determines what species and numbers I can take? What about black bear?
Im not sure how much land you have , but if it's near Sudbury it most likely part of a registered line and the chances of being issued quota for the animals you listed is slimQuote:

Your private land will most likely be in an area that is designated as a trapline , the trapper holding the licence cannot trap on your property without your permission but it's still managed as that trapline area , I have a number of plots of private ground on my registered line in the Kirkland lake area , as far as what you can trap you will be able to trap non quotaed animals on your property with a private land licence , you may also be able to sign on as an o2 with another trapper as a helper in a registered line in the area
What township is your land in ? I might be able to find the trapline number for you
It's Dryden township. OK... I see... Fisher and marten etc would be managed as part of the quota total for the registered area? What about bear? How does that work? Could I take one with my trapping license or just a hunting license?
Thats something you will have to discuss with the fur tech from that area , I'm not sure how they will work that situation outQuote:

Check your licence for what you can trap.As far as marten and fisher go the mnr go by acreage.I know my area in minden district is 700 acres per fisher.My line i had at bear lake was 500 acres for fisher and marten.Thats one animal per 500 acres.
Thanks for the info. I haven't gotten my actual license yet - i just completed the course. Just curious what I would be able to go after this coming fall.
