Hey guys, I am in the market for a new outboard. I am thinking of buying new off the lot, and am in the research stage.
im looking for a 25-35 hp, remote, not tiller. I don't have a particular favourite between brands, but would rather stick with one of the big brands.
I only have any experience with 2 strokes, is there anything I should know, or look for in a four stroke?
Any suggestions on a reputable dealer in the Hamilton/Burlington area?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find that the old standbys such as Merc and Evinrude have been replaced in popularity by Yamaha and Honda. There's a reason for that.
Merc is still the number one outboard sold so.... If you want to stay with 2 stroke check out evinrude, I hear their smaller motors perform well and are light weight.
Well against my better judgement I am going to weigh in on this, I bought a new Evinrude e tec in 2008 40 hp and put it on a 15ft sylvan explorer and although it was reliable it sucked gas like no tomorrow, bought a new boat with a merc optimax 125 and I swear there is not much of a difference in fuel consumption.
I have a 20 hp Honda and while I love how it performs and the gas mileage it gets, every time I have to find and then pay for parts I have a meltdown.
You will not be disappointed with a Tohatsu motor who happens to manufacture the outboards for companies such as Merc and Nissan.
Merc is # 1 for a reason some of the new 2 strokes (optimax) make almost no smoke when running are lighter have more power and are cheaper to buy than a 4 stroke. I've also heard very good things about evinrude e tec just saying don't limit your search to 4 strokes
now on my second suzuki ,70hp 4 stroke. Best motor I have ever owned. And I have owned several mercs,evinrudes,and a yammy. sips gas,quiet and very reliable. Do some reaserch on them.
Port Colborne marine has what they call 2013 mercury...have about 1 tank of gas in them...bought 1 ..still in box for $2000.00 they are tiller but can be made into remote..25hp.
Kyle get a new 4 stroke .. Mercury or Yamaha ... Are you taking the old motor off Dad's and putting the new one on his boat or have you picked up another boat ?
