Had a great time over the last five days in the Rouyn-Noranda area. Lots of heat, lots of mosquitos, lots of food, lots of drink and lots of fish. Best of all; very few people.
We caught a ton of walleye, many pike and a few sauger. The average size for the walleye are on the small side (14" - 18"), but they're the good eating ones. We had a main fish fry with the larger group and then my room mate and I had our own the next night.
The pike are crazy in that lake. We had one break off then just sit there on the surface in a weird position. We netted it to see what was up and discover that it grabbed itself by the tail and would not let go. My buddy got his jig back and the fish was released. We had another grab a walleye and it would not let go, even after numerous runs and jumps, then they both got off. Another pike broke off with one of my buddy's crank baits in its mouth. He picked up the pliers and grabbed the pike by the top fin and retrieved his crank bait before the fish could swim away.
The largest walleye was just shy of 6 lbs.
I would suggest to anyone that enjoys being in the wilderness to explore this area.
