some people can really piss me off

so went out to my bear bait yesterday, did my thang, then decided just to take a little atv ride further up the trail which is just a dead end trail. well seen a new little trail cut off to the side about 150 yds up from my trail, so of course i follwed it, and wouldnt ya know, there is a nice tree stand built there, started looking around, oh, wouldnt ya know there is bait 50 yds in front of it... gah, million acres of crown land around, and he sets up right beside me... and my bait isnt hard to find, and bin there for a few years now... with the season only 10 days away not sure what im gonna do, getting late to move, and its bin a excellent spot... gah people

its not even that popular... only accessible by atv way out of way for pretty much anybody but me... but... ive got a good idea whos it is... was talking to a fella last year who hasnt had luck getting bears at his bait and stupid me said ive gotton bears the last 2 years... guessing he found my bait... same guy my neighbour caught hunting his property last year...

I would leave a note saying you will be in there on which days and that your bait is right on top of his and been there for years....see what happens. Or if you know who it is may be worth tracking him down and workign something out, unfortunately its a piss off for sure but its also crown land by sounds of it and not much you can do. Maybe if hes a decent guy he will either move his setup or you guys can work together ....if its as good of spot as you say there has got to be enough bears in there for both of you and maybe you can get him his first bear

Sorry to hear about the bait buddy. Sucks thats its so close to the opener. Tough call not to poop on his treestand. I know it will be a tough enough year around these parts as is with the huge apple and berry crop. Best of luck with the decision. Might just have to be the better hunter and offer a tastier bait.

That's deffinently a heart breaker to come across, obviously every right to be there, but, some ethics would be nice, given he did see your setup? any chance he came in a different way, or no way in heck he missed you, and just setup overtop anyway?

yes crown land, i gotta deal with, just the ethics that piss me off, i wouldnt empose on somebody else like that, when i picked the spot i went all over, making sure no body else was around, explored every trail, then selected this spot... i was considering helping the guy out by offering a fresh jug of fryer grease in his tree stand... lol probably what i will end up doing is setting up a second barrel somewhere else as a back up and hunt my normal stand the 1st few days, and hopefully get my bear opening day like the previous 2 years, but if not move my stand to the second barrel... funny thing is, if the guy hadve asked me, i wouldve let him hunt my stand after i got my bear, have offered that to people in the past. but if its the guy i think it is, he's known in the area as "one of those guys" and i have pics of him at my bait last year checking things out so... ive got a good idea who it is...

just a trail wide enough for a atv, now my bait is off the trail but i got a atv trail right to my barrel, so if he followed the trail he would see it... is a chance the guy didnt look around, but...

no other way in, just a old grown in log trail, that comes to a dead end...

Put up another stand 20ft from his overlooking his bait.

Unfourtunant but it's the joys of hunting on crown land. Hopefully things work out for you
