waterproofing boots?

I was wondering what you guys use to waterproof your boots. I got a decent pair but I worry that water will get in if I got to cross some water spots. the boots are the canvas,lace up.thinsulated type. i read that silicone spray will work but looking for actual results. thanks

I use Nikwax for my leather boots. They have products for fabric, canvas and other materials. Bought it at Sail Burlington.

I am not sure what to use on canvas boots. Perhaps the cans of silicone spray will have the different types of material it can be used on? I use a few coats of mink oil on my leather boots.

I have used mink oil on every thing for years, from nylon to leather. on the hunting boots with the fabric it ends up similar to a light paste, doesn't work in like the leather I make sure I get to were all the stitching is so the threads don't dry out.. I do the laces and tongue as well as my leather belt and sling.but I don't care just keeps my feet dry. And the rest from cracking and rotting.

For leather - neatsfoot oil to prevent cracking, then mink oil for waterproofing.

I use sno-seal its awesome on leather not sure if it will work on nylon

I buy the silicone based spray. Has a bright orange top. I use it on all my outdoor boots.

I have leather boots and I like Dubin. I make sure to rub it into the welts and apply as required.

Mink oil or dubbin, stay away from the sprays. Start with a thick bead where the upper meets the sole, and then work it into the upper from there.

Just out of curiousity, and not to hijack the thread but along the same lines and without creating another thread - I bought a brand new one piece insulated hunting suit, all cotton exterior (almost feels like a thin canvas), and poly interior. It is NOT waterproof however, any suggestions on getting it water resistant so if it starts to rain on the stand I don't get completely soaked?
