My first companion

Hey everyone. I havent been too active the last month or so, getting set up fot hunting season and what not. Also my girlfriend and I just got this big boy 2 weeks ago.

His name is Lou, he is 16 weeks old and is probably about 35lbs now (he was weighed in at 31.4lbs at the vet the monday that just passed). We picked him up from the girlfriends cousin who lives in Gravenhurst 2 weekends ago.

He has been very good so far, listens extremely well, only a few accidents in the house so far that I understand have been our fault for not getting him outside in time.

He is our first dog so if anyone has any information to pass on about training or diet or anything, I am all ears.

Might have to mortgage to feed that fella till he is all growed up . lol Congrats on your pup and enjoy fatherhood .

What will bother you first is that big boy peeing in your house. Even though it is annoying, you must be consistent with house training. I take my pups out every 30 minutes till they go to bed. Yes annoying , but that consistency has a pup 99% trained in 6-8 weeks.

Yeah he is handsome if I do say so my self. Hes eating around 6 cups of large breed puppy food a day, and we go outside about 2 dozen times a day haha. He has been good with children so far, my girlfriends sister has an 18 month old daughter who is all over him. We still aren't sure who is more scared, Lou or the baby. She is constantly trying to shove one of his toys in his mouth and he just lays there and gives her a very unimpressed/I'm lazy look.
On a side note, I understand he is a big dog especially for my first dog. My girlfriend saw him and immediately would not be talked out of getting him. We have been working hard at training him early everything from sit and stay to not pulling on the leash, not to jump up on people, we are trying to keep him off furniture (the girlfriend wants him to sleep on the bed so mixed feelings in that area). He has ample chew toys and so far we haven't had any problems with him chewing furniture or anything in the house except his own toys.

Did he come with a barrel around his neck ?

Haha actually as big as he is, hes still too small for a barrel. We have already started scouring the internet for a barrel collar that will hold whiskey for when he is big enough though.
The blue and white reflective harness was given to us with a matching leash, but I couldn't resist getting a matching camo dog paws with blaze orange trim leash and harness (no pictures yet).
The future father in law saw it and keeps laughing at me and saying I won't even be able to get Lou out in the bush for more then 5 minutes before he plops his butt on the ground to fall asleep. I didn't get him for hunting obviously, the girlfriend "just couldn't resist his cuteness". But me being a hunter and having talked about wanting a hunting dog, the immediate response from everyone is "you cant get him to hunt" "hes not a hunting dog".
I still want to let him experience as much as possible though, everything that I do outdoors I hope to be able to bring him along to hang out.

Oh no, bad idea . But if you can't win, get him his own double bed beside yours.:)
