Do you hunt with him ? Does he get a good run at least every other day or so ??
Bucket of dirty bird.:)
My Dad and I bred beagles for many years. When my Dad's gas station business went bankrupt we were POOR.
My Dad would pick up the left -over food on Fridays from the food trucks that went to construction - they would normally throw it out on Fridays.
The dogs and the kids did just fine on old hotdogs, meat pies, wilted salads, apples, stale raisin buns etc.
Dog still had good energy and good coats.
That's my general opinion on the dog food hype of to day. :)
Stick with it then Sharon. That sounds better than PP. LOL!
Like I said good genetics makes all the difference in the world.
Yes he getts a good run it's like he's board with it if u give him a new type he will eat the first bowl but that's it
Then don't worry about it. Put it down in front of him and if he or she doesn't eat it within the first 5 - 10 minutes pick it up and don't give him anything until the next day. He'll soon learn that if he doesn't eat it right then and there he's going to go hungry. Might sound a bit harsh but it works.
I use to do that with my racing husky pups or picky adult dogs that i purchased from another musher. They needed to eat and stay hydrated on the trail and they quickly learned to scarf it down. A picky dog can easily perish on the trail if it hasn't been taught to eat on command.
I'd also suggest getting him a better food than puppy chow.
