Decided to try a couple different loads I had kicking around to see if I could get a decent pattern out to 40 with. Since most of my birds end up pretty close before being tagged so I'm thinking twice about using the Win Longbeards XR's. I used Federal Flight Control Turkey Loads and Kents. I didn't have the gun shouldered well with the Kents but still not bad patterns IMO with the edge going to the Fed's.

Both dead birds for sure.... they look like great patterns for 40 yds.... enough to kill them and looks like it won't be too tight when/if its an up close shot......
I like the Kent shells too..... but 3" for me... :)
Either one looks good . Now just find the turkeys lol good luck
As stated, both are healthy patterns. Get at em!
I must say I admire the work you put into your targets. Not too often ones targets have beards.
Yes, good density for 40 yds....impressive actually !!
I bought some of the Kent Diamonds (2 3/4 #5) this year to see how they pattern in my Wingmaster 870 (full). Not expecting that performace at 30 yds...maybe they'll surprise me :)
I bought 2 boxes of Long Beard 3", #5. Do not pattern yet. I do not know if gun or shell is more important.
I use the Kent's in my 20 gauge. They seem to work well enough for me.Quote:

Here's a question, do you guys pattern every year? I.E the same gun, the same choke, the same loads (out of the same box as years previous) ?
well yea !!! what good is owning a bucket of shells and never shooting them...LOL....any excuse to get out and shoot should suffice...LOL...Quote:
