Backyard Brookies

Well for some trout opener comes a little later.
For the lucky few it doesn't really matter when you decide to open your trout season.

I for one am lucky enough to have a nice little fishing hole mostly all to my self within walking distance of the farm property line. Permission required.

Finally got out last Sunday for an hour with my son. He has a great obsession with catching frogs so he was in his glory!

Dad on the other hand needed to scratch a very bad itch!!

About an hour of casting, switching it with different techniques, two nice fish came out to play.

I like simple. #6 octopus hook with a little chunk of worm on a slow retrieve. Had to even take the split shoot off after the first half hours of no nibbles.

Made casting a challenge but meh, that's half the fun. I should really learn to fly fish!!!

Released the fish for another day. Need to keep them in that little hole.......therapy for the soul.

Beautiful fish! You'd have a ball with a 3 weight fly rod!

That one sure is beautiful. If I had my own personal stream I'd be a much more selective harvester myself.

Nice fish! A stocked pond, or are they naturally occurring? Pretty fish either way. When I was a kid...I spent my summer days with a fishing rod and a slingshot. No trout...not even sure I knew what one was, but plenty of creek chub and the slingshot was there to harvest frogs for bait I used for Georgian Bay smallmouths. Never knew you could use them live! Great memories..

Stocked many moons ago. Spring fed out of a hill side ( on my parents property)with a spill way that feeds into a creek with Brookies in it. I am led to think they are reproducing as have caught many different sizes from 6-14 inches. Pond it's self is on the neighbours property.
