No Motivation

Been out 3 very early mornings for Turkeys and I have no motivation to go out anymore.

There seems to be a lot less birds this year in our area and a lot less action.

Maybe it is all the other stuff at home but when I get up at 3:30am to go hunting and don't even hear a gobble it is very disheartening. I have 2 places to hunt, a couple hundred acres in total and have seen 1 tom and about 8 hens in total with almost no noise.

Between myself and the fiancee this year looks like a waste of $60 that could have been a lot better spent.

Easy to get frustrated - we are only human.

I love to kill 'em more than anybody but I can honestly say that pulling the trigger in the turkey game, at least to me, seems to be anti-climactic.

I am done with getting up at dark-thirty to chase them. Really messes me up these days, especially considering how busy things are with work and family. From here on in I am going out a few hours at at time - mid-morning or late afternoon.

I say keep after 'em. The hunt is the best part anyway.

Tell me about it! What you describe is almost identical to what I am experiencing, except I've been out a bit more.

With the hot weather we've had and the rain we are getting now, the bugs are really starting too. I was out Saturday morning, and the blackflies were pretty bad. I had the Thermacell, so the mosquitos were manageable.

I don't know about others, but for me, when the temperature is up around 30 °C, it feels weird to be hunting.

I might take a week off to re-establish the desire.

Been out 3 mornings, one afternoon ..... just heard 2 gobbles 1 morning .... could have shot 2 does on separate mornings at 40 yards and a few Canada Geese and a few Mallards but only saw 1 lonely hen .... interesting year.... last year had 2 gobblers by now.... nice to get out but all is silent in the woods, like a graveyard ? I have no idea what to do different ? .... actually, doesn't matter what I do if the birds are not in my spots this year. or if they are they are undercover and have no interest in my calls ( I know that my calling works from previous success, just not right now) ... trying again tomorrow morning ... same spots ( only spots I have ) .... lotsa time left .... keep the chin up Fox, be ready when your chance comes and as you well know, stay motionless on on guard... your $60 was not wasted... this is huntin' time now, shootin' time will come yet.

kind of a sad attitude. If being out in the woods isn't enough for you maybe hunting not your game. I hear you it seems to be a quiet time right from the get go but that's hunting.

Yikes guys. Not exactly boosting up us new hunters out there are ya?

Don't think its a question of boosting up. Seems a reality check is in order. If 60.00 bucks for being in the out doors is a "Waste" than the solution is simple don't do it move on.

Maybe it's the rainy weather that's got everyone down.

I stopped the 4:00 am craziness a few years back...I head out for the mid morning or mid-afternoon hunts now....the birds are still there you just have to work a little harder because you don't know where they are. It seems a lot guys give up when they can't hear a gobble. If you've recce'd the area and know they are there, you just have to be patient and keep calling.

Pulling in a Tom in full strut and gobble is fun, but it's not the only way. I've shot plenty of birds that never made a sound till they were right in front of me. One woke me up from a nap sticking his head into my pop-up window..had to wait till he backed off 5 yds to shot him :)

We're not even 1/2 way thru the month yet, lots of time to get out and enjoy the hunt...

No gobbles doesn't mean that there are not any toms in the bush, could be high pressure or predators in the area. I've had years with silent birds but I still get em. If they always came in on a string gobbling their faces off I think the hunt would lose some of it appeal.
