what are the chances of luring in bears by baiting one day before you hunt ?
not ideal, but better than not baiting
if there are bears around they will come in. use strong smelling bait sardines, old deep fryer oil. splash it up as high as you can on the tree to help carry the scent.. stink the place up
good luck!
All comes down to whether they are in the area, and if what you're offering is better than what their finding.
I successfully had bears hitting my bait within a day, had beaver castor, bacon bait, corn covered in maple syrup and jello powder
But I knew where there's a ton of bears
I heard popcorn is pretty good. Somewhere I read that you put it in a barrel with some small holes so it doesn't pour out all at once.
yup fryer oil, especially fry wagon or fish n chips.
sweets: for quick hit, try molasses and chopped apples or a can (the presweetened one) of grape koolaide or a few boxes of strawberry jello powder with molasses in a rag or sock drip. use a quart of molasses, no name works. they can tend to come in fast with that.
its sticky though so wear crap gloves for it and dont get it all over yourself, or bear might decide you're his taste so to speak
thanks for the help
I've heard guys say they've used these scent sticks with good success....perfect for your situation as they burn while you're in the stand and carry attractants odour out into the bush.
The sell them at TSC that I know of....

I Zipped an arrow through the Bear on Tuesday.

1st Bear arrowed by my Buddy on Sunday.
I arrowed mine on Wednesday from the same bait pile.
It can be done if you bait where the Bears are... :)
