Rut Activity?

hey everyone,

Are any of you seeing heavy rutting activity? If so, where?

I am close to Ottawa, and I have yet to see any chasing, and have limited reports of it in the area. Does are still unharassed in the fields.

Hey Bud...just got back from a camp tour in the Kemptville area..slim pickens indeed. One camp of 12 hunters only put up 1 small buck last week another camp only SAW one deer all week.

We just started (2nd week) and on the first night out only a Doe and 2 fawns were sighted.

There is sign of rutting in this area, some nice scraps/rubs, but no pics of Bucks during the day on any of the trail cams set out. But they are out there, after dark, so they are still nocturnal.

I'll let you know how the this week goes..last week sounded pretty bleak !!

Historic rublines haven't been refreshed, no scrapes and limited daytime sightings.
Our daytime temps were unseasonably high for the opening week of rifle.
Even the dog was panting like a freight train- must be tough on the critters to bulk up their fat and then get hot weather.

I heard a lot of shots right at or slightly after the legal shoot time. I'm wondering if the week was sooooo tough the guys were willing to shoot under almost any conditions. Lots of multiple shots too which suggests running deer (to me anyway).

I see the bucks last few morning chasing Does here in Ajax

This coming week should be fantastic hunting. I am going to be out as much as I can ....Dutch

No sign of the rut where I have been.

We hunt just outside peterborough. A guy in our group got a beauty 9 pointer. He was FULL on rut. His neck was swollen bigtime and his tarsals were soaked and absolutely rank. You could smell it from 10 ft away. Up till that point there was little to no sign of the rut. There were a couple small scrapes but they did not appear to be maintained for the last couple weeks.

Little sign in 57 last week. Saw does x9 no bucks!)

Our group of 12 just got back from hunting the muzzleloader season we ended up with 2 bucks and 8 does. smaller bucks were harassing the does wasn't until Saturday the big bucks starting showing up showing signs of being interested in the does. This up coming week should be good.
