The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing an incident involving a York police officer discharging a firearm in Thornhill on Monday.The SIU says that just after 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a seriously injured deer on the road in the area of Henderson and Proctor avenues.
Investigators say the officers closed the area to traffic and used a firearm to put down the animal, but shortly after that, a 78-year-old man was found injured nearby.
The man was transported to hospital, treated, and released.
Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to investigate this incident.
Anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to contact the SIU.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
